The Story of Prophet Salih in English

The Story of Prophet Salih in English

Background

Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) was sent by Allah to the people of Thamud, who lived in a region known today as Al-Hijr, situated in the northwestern part of the Arabian Peninsula. The Thamudites were descendants of the people of Ad and were known for their impressive skills in carving homes out of mountains and their advanced civilization.

The People of Thamud

The Thamudites were blessed with great prosperity and strength, but they strayed from the path of Allah, engaging in idol worship and sinful behavior. They built magnificent structures, yet their hearts were hard and their spirits rebellious. Allah sent Salih, a righteous man from among them, as a prophet to guide them back to monotheism and righteousness.

Salih's Message

Salih called his people to worship Allah alone, urging them to abandon their idols and sinful ways. He reminded them of the blessings they enjoyed and warned them of the consequences of their continued disobedience. Salih's message was clear: worship Allah, the One true God, and lead a life of piety and justice.

The She-Camel Miracle

The people of Thamud demanded a sign to prove Salih's prophethood. In response, Salih, by Allah's command, brought forth a miraculous she-camel from a rock. This she-camel was unique and served as a clear sign of Allah's power. Salih instructed his people to respect the she-camel, to let her graze freely, and to share their water with her.

Despite witnessing this miracle, only a few believed in Salih's message. The majority continued in their disbelief and plotted against the she-camel, seeing it as a threat to their way of life and authority.

The Tragic Outcome

In defiance of Salih's warning, a group of conspirators hamstrung and killed the she-camel. This heinous act sealed their fate. Salih warned them of imminent punishment from Allah for their transgression. He advised them to repent and seek forgiveness, but his words fell on deaf ears.

Three days after the killing of the she-camel, a terrible earthquake and thunderous blast struck the land. The people of Thamud were destroyed, their homes turned to ruins, and their civilization wiped out as a consequence of their arrogance and defiance of Allah’s command.

Salih's Aftermath

Salih and those who believed in him were spared from the calamity. He mourned for his people, lamenting their stubbornness and refusal to heed his warnings. The story of Salih and the Thamudites serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of rejecting divine guidance and persisting in sinful behavior.
