The Story of Prophet Isa (Jesus) in English

Birth and Early Life

Prophet Isa (Jesus), known as Isa in Arabic, is a highly revered figure in Islam. His story begins with his mother, Maryam (Mary), who was known for her piety and devotion. Maryam was chosen by Allah for a significant role. While she was in seclusion, the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) appeared to her, informing her that she would miraculously give birth to a son, despite being a virgin. This son was to be a sign for humanity and a mercy from Allah.

Maryam gave birth to Isa alone in the desert, under a date palm tree. The Quran describes how she was provided with fresh dates and a stream of water to sustain her. After Isa's birth, Maryam returned to her people, who were shocked and accused her of unchastity. In response, she pointed to her newborn son, and baby Isa, miraculously speaking from the cradle, defended his mother and proclaimed his prophetic mission.

Isa's Miracles and Teachings

Isa was granted many miracles by Allah. He spoke clearly from the cradle, saying, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet" (Quran 19:30). As he grew, his miracles continued, serving as signs of his prophethood. Some of these miracles included healing the blind and leprous, raising the dead, and creating a bird from clay and breathing life into it, all by Allah's permission.

Isa's teachings focused on worshiping Allah alone and adhering to righteousness. He confirmed the Torah that came before him and brought the Injeel (Gospel) as guidance for his people. Isa emphasized compassion, humility, and devotion to Allah. He called the Children of Israel to return to the true path and rectify their ways.

Opposition and Disciples

Despite his clear signs and miracles, many among the Children of Israel rejected Isa's message. The religious leaders of the time felt threatened by his influence and sought to discredit and harm him. However, Isa gathered a group of devoted followers known as the Hawariyyun (Disciples), who believed in his message and supported him.

The Plot and Allah's Protection

The rejection and hostility towards Isa culminated in a plot to crucify him. The leaders conspired with the Roman authorities to arrest and execute him. According to Islamic belief, Allah protected Isa from their scheme. The Quran states that it appeared to the people that Isa was crucified, but he was not. Instead, Allah raised him to Himself, and another person was made to resemble him, who was then crucified in his place (Quran 4:157-158).

Isa's Second Coming

Islamic eschatology holds that Isa will return to Earth before the Day of Judgment. His second coming will be a time of justice and peace. Isa will defeat the false messiah (Al-Masih ad-Dajjal or Antichrist), break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the jizya tax, signifying the end of falsehood and the establishment of true monotheism. He will rule justly, following the laws of Islam, and eventually pass away after fulfilling his mission, to be buried like all human beings.

The story of Prophet Isa is a profound narrative of faith, miracles, and divine guidance, emphasizing the core Islamic teachings of monotheism, righteousness, and the ultimate victory of good over evil.
